Indian cricket fans will never forget this day i.e. April 2, 2011. On this day, India won the ODI World Cup for the second time. Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Team India defeated Sri Lanka in the title match.

Gautam Gambhir played an unbeaten inning of 97 runs and captain Dhoni played an important role in helping Team India win. With this victory, the Indian team ended its 28-year World Cup win drought. Earlier, India had won the first ODI World Cup in the year 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. 

In the final match played at Wankhede, Sri Lanka, playing first, scored 274 runs for 6 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Mahela Jayawardene scored the highest number of 103. Whereas Kumar Sangakkara had scored 48 runs. In reply, Team India won the World Cup final by achieving the target in 48.2 overs.
