Suryakumar Yadav said that I was very disappointed when I could not play against New Zealand due to back stiffness. I wanted to make a mark in the World Cup which I could not do but I am thankful to Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar Yadav got a chance to bat at number three in the first T20 International against New Zealand in Jaipur. Batting at this number, he felt comfortable and with the T20 World Cup being held next year, he knew he had to show flexibility in batting. In the limited-overs format, Suryakumar Yadav has high hopes for the Indian team and he played a big role in India's 5-wicket win against the Kiwis, playing an innings of 62 runs off 40 balls.

In the absence of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar was sent to bat at number three, and in the post-match press conference, he said that I have batted from the beginning of the innings till number seven. I show a lot of flexibility in the batting order. I have been battling for my franchise (IPL team Mumbai Indians) at number three for the last three years so I didn't feel much difference. Suryakumar could not make a mark in the recently concluded T20 World Cup as India crashed out of the group stage itself. Kohli sent Suryakumar at number three above himself for experience in the final match against Namibia as he scored an unbeaten 25.

Suryakumar said that I was very disappointed when I could not play against New Zealand due to back stiffness. I wanted to make a mark in the World Cup which didn't happen, but I am thankful to Virat Kohli. “When I made my debut, Kohli, sacrificing his place, sent me against England at No.3 and himself batted at No.4. During T20 World Cup 2021 he asked me if I want to go out to bat so I said why not. I enjoyed returning unbeaten in that match.
