She came out of the Dharavi slums and became a millionaire, this player got the most money in WPL
After the IPL, the auction for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 was held on Sunday, December 15. During this, Gujarat Giants bid Rs 1.90 crore for 22-year-old all-rounder Simran Sheikh and made her the most expensive player of this season. Let us tell you that this time her base price was just Rs 10 lakh. But do you know how she traveled from the slums of Dharavi to become a millionaire? Let's find out.
How did a wireman's daughter become a millionaire?
The last season of WPL was very bad for Simran Sheikh. No team bid for her and she remained unsold. After this, she got a place in the UP Warriors team but had to spend the entire season sitting in the dugout. Then she made a comeback in the domestic season and scored a lot of runs for Mumbai, the result of which was seen in the auction. Simran grew up in Asia's largest slum Dharavi. Her father is a wireman. After coming out of there, she has traveled the journey of becoming a millionaire.

When Gujarat bid Rs 1.9 crore for her, her father was very happy. Initially, she used to learn this game with the boys, so her neighbors used to provoke her father to stop Simran from playing. They used to ask her to learn household chores. However, Simran's father never stopped her from playing. When the WPL auction was over, the same people came to congratulate her father.
There was no money for cricket kit
Simran Sheikh looked very emotional after the WPL auction. She told that a night before the auction, she was just hoping to be bought by any team. But ever since Gujarat Giants bought her, there has been a line of phone calls. Simran revealed that there was a time when she did not even have money to buy a basic cricket kit. But today she has earned so much money because of cricket. After Kashvi Gautam, she is the second most expensive player in the Gujarat team. Kashvi was bought by Gujarat for 2 crores last season.
