Sunil Chhetri scored two goals within nine minutes as India defeated hosts Maldives 3-1 to enter the final of the SAAF Football Championship for the 12th time.
Seven-time champions India had to win at any cost to reach the title match. Now the Indian team will face Nepal in the final on Saturday. Chhetri (62nd, 71st) and Manveer Singh (33rd) scored for India. Ali Ashraf (45th minute) scored the only goal for defending champions Maldives on a penalty.
Chhetri overtook Pele: During this, Chhetri overtook Brazil's legend Pele in terms of scoring the most international goals. Chhetri has 79 goals in 124 matches. He equaled Pele's record of 77 goals by scoring a goal in the previous match against Nepal. Chhetri is one goal less than Argentine legend Lionel Messi (80).
