S Badrinath started playing first-class cricket in the year 2000. He was known for his solid batting technique. Badrinath could not do much in the first 4-5 years of first-class cricket, but he started scoring runs consistently from the 2005-06 season. In this season, he scored 636 runs at an average of 80. In the 2006-07 season, he scored 436 runs at an average of 50, and in the 2007-08 season, he scored 659 runs at an average of 65. Badrinath was scoring runs consistently in domestic cricket, for which he got the reward. First, he got a place in the Indian team in 2007 and in the Indian team in 2008.
S Badrinath made his debut in all three formats for India but his career was not very long. He started his international career for Team India in 2008 with an ODI match against Sri Lanka. He could play only 7 matches in this format, in which he scored just 79 runs. During this, his highest score was 27 runs. Badrinath also made his Test debut against South Africa in 2010, but it also ended after just 2 Tests. In 3 innings of 2 Tests, he scored 63 runs with the help of 1 half-century. Apart from this, he played the only T20 match against West Indies in 2011, in which he scored 43 runs. Badrinath, who started his international career in 2008, played his last match for Team India in 2011.
S Badrinath started playing IPL for Chennai Super Kings in 2008. He retired after playing 6 seasons of IPL i.e. 2013. During this time, he scored 1441 runs in 95 matches at a strike rate of 118. He also managed to win the trophy in 2010 and 2011 under Dhoni's captaincy. Badrinath never turned to any other team other than CSK in IPL. During this time, he got a salary of Rs 12 lakh in the first three seasons. Whereas from 2011 to 2013, he got a salary of Rs 3.68 crore. In this way, he earned a total of Rs 11 crore 40 lakh from IPL.
