Joe Root has scored a century in the first test match against Pakistan in Multan. On the third day of the match, he batted brilliantly and scored a century in 167 balls. This was the 35th century of his career. Along with this, he has also broken the record of centuries of West Indies' great batsman Brian Lara. With this century, he has left behind 4 legends including Lara. Joe Root has gone ahead of Lara, Sunil Gavaskar, Younis Khan, and Mahela Jayawardene in terms of scoring centuries. All these legends had scored 34 centuries during their test career.

Joe Root's brilliant performance against Pakistan continues. Not only this, his bat is continuously pouring runs in 2024. This is his 5th century this year. He has equaled Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis. Mendis has also scored 5 centuries this year. Root has scored more than 1100 runs this year at an average of 61, which means once again he has completed a thousand runs in a calendar year. He has done this feat for the fifth time in Test cricket. With this, he equaled a record of Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Alastair Cook. Now he is just two steps away from leaving Sachin behind. Sachin had scored more than a thousand runs in a calendar year 6 times in his career.

Before playing against Pakistan, Joe Root had scored 12402 runs in 146 matches at an average of 50. Apart from this, he also had 34 centuries and 64 half-centuries to his name. He has been among the batsmen who have consistently performed well for England, which he proved again by making a record. Before lunch on the third day, he touched the figure of 12474 runs by scoring only 72 runs. With this, he surpassed Cook and became the highest run-scorer for England. Cook had scored 12472 runs in 161 matches of his career at an average of 45.

Joe Root made many records in his first innings on the Pakistan tour. He achieved a big feat in the World Test Championship (WTC) as soon as he completed 27 runs. Root has now become the first and only batsman in the world to complete 5000 runs in the history of WTC. He has played a total of 59 matches in the WTC cycle, in which he has scored 5005 runs.
