Rohit Sharma is currently the captain of the Indian cricket team in all three formats. Rohit led India in the One Day International (ODI) World Cup in 2023, and it has now been confirmed that he will also captain the team in the T20 World Cup in 2024. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hinted that someone else may take charge of the Indian team after Rohit, indicating a possible change in leadership.
As Rohit Sharma is increasing in age, the question is being raised among Indian cricket fans as to who will lead Team India after him. At present, Hardik Pandya's name is emerging as a possible candidate, because he has captained the team on many occasions and is also the vice-captain. However, BCCI has made it clear that Hardik Pandya may not become the captain of Team India after Rohit Sharma.
According to news agency PTI, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah was questioned about the captaincy of Team India. He was asked whether we can see Hardik Pandya as captain after the T20 World Cup. Responding to this, Jay Shah said, "Hardik is the vice-captain now and why are you thinking about the future? Let's talk about the present; Rohit Sharma is the captain in all three formats."
It is noteworthy that after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma has taken over the captaincy in all three formats. However, the situation is not clear regarding who will take charge of Team India after Rohit. Despite the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Team India has not been able to win any major tournament except the Asia Cup.
