The upcoming fourth Test match between India and England is going to be held in Ranchi and currently, India is leading 2-1 in the series. In the context of the Ranchi Test, there is speculation about a significant change within Team India, especially regarding the involvement of Jasprit Bumrah. There are reports that to give Bumrah some rest, he may be rested from the Ranchi Test. If this happens then the question arises who will take his place?

Challenges of replacing Bumrah:

Jasprit Bumrah is a senior player in the team, who has invaluable experience that is unmatched by others. Additionally, he has been the most successful wicket-taker in the ongoing series with 17 wickets in three matches. Considering his important role in the bowling attack, replacing him will not be an easy task.

Will pacer or spinner take place in Ranchi?

Mukesh Kumar: Mukesh Kumar, who recently played for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, was released from the team after the second Test to play Ranji matches. He performed brilliantly against Bihar, taking 10 wickets in a match, making him a potential candidate for the Test team.

Akash Deep: Another option from Bengal, Akash Deep is making his debut in the Indian team. His remarkable record in first-class cricket, where he has taken 104 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 23.58, makes him a strong contender to be Bumrah's replacement.

Washington Sundar: If the Ranchi pitch is favourable for spin, the team management may opt for an additional spinner. Considering Washington Sundar's all-round ability, he could be a suitable option. He has been a part of the Indian team and has displayed his skills in both batting and bowling.

Axar Patel: Axar Patel, an experienced spinner, is another option if spin-friendly conditions are expected. His left-arm spin and lower-order batting can provide a different dimension to the team.

The final decision depends on conditions:

The decision to replace Bumrah will likely depend on the condition of the Ranchi pitch and the team's overall strategy. If the Ranchi pitch turns, that is, it turns out to be helpful to spin, then the team management can think of sidelining the pace option and fielding another spinner in place of Bumrah. And, if this happens then either Washington Sundar or Akshar Patel can play.
