Sports Desk, New Delhi: The fourth Test match of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) series between India and Australia has begun at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. The second day’s play of the Boxing Day Test has now commenced.

On Day 1, Australia started strongly in the first session against India. However, Team India bounced back brilliantly, taking six wickets. By stumps, Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 68 runs, while captain Pat Cummins was not out on 8. Australia's score at the end of Day 1 stood at 311/6.

After the first three matches, the series is currently tied at 1-1, making the Melbourne Test crucial for either team to gain the lead in the series.

India’s record at the Melbourne Cricket Ground has been remarkable. Since 2014, India has played three matches here against Australia, winning two and drawing one. Over the past decade, Australia has failed to secure a victory against India at this venue.
