I am sad, but…' Manu Bhaker broke her silence on her name not being included in the Khel Ratna award list.
On 23 December, the list of Khel Ratna awards was released in which the name of India's shooting star Manu Bhaker was not there. This matter has gained a lot of attention. Sports Ministry officials claimed that Manu had not applied for the Khel Ratna award. While Manu's father had alleged that Manu had applied no response came from the committee. Now Manu Bhaker herself has broken her silence on this matter. She has said that she is saddened by her name not being on the list for the Khel Ratna Award.
It will be an honor for me to receive the Khel Ratna Award.
Manu spoke openly on this issue in a conversation with ABP New. The shooting star was asked, 'Why is your name not among the names recommended for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award?' In response to this question, Manu said, 'I think this question should be asked to someone else. Khel Ratna is a very big award. It would be an honor for me to receive it.'
Manu was saddened by not being nominated for the Khel Ratna Award
Manu was further asked, 'Are you sad, disappointed?' To this the Indian player said, 'Of course I am a little sad but I have to work on my craft. Sport is my goal. As a citizen and as an athlete, it is my duty to work as hard as I can, win medals. I had hoped that I would get an award this year but there is no final decision yet. But whatever happens, I am very positive about it.'
Why does Manu deserve the Khel Ratna Award?
22-year-old Manu created history in the Olympic Games held in Paris in 2024. She had earlier won the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event. After this, she also won the bronze medal in the 10m mixed team. She is the first athlete in independent India to win two medals in the same Olympics. Earlier, she won the Arjuna Award in 2020 and two gold medals in the 2018 ISSF World Cup. Manu has achieved so much in the world of sports in her short career, due to which she deserves to get the Khel Ratna Award.
