Gautam Gambhir wants to see this player batting at No. 3, not Virat Kohli

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday (November 17) said that Suryakumar Yadav should bat at No. 3 in T20Is even if former T20I captain Virat Kohli returns to the team.

Gambhir made this statement after scoring 62 runs in just 40 balls against New Zealand in the first match of the T20 series against New Zealand in Jaipur. Suryakumar Yadav has been spotted batting at No 3 in Kohli's absence. The batsman took full advantage of the change in batting position to play a match-winning inning.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir said that Suryakumar, who bats at No. 3 in T20Is, will be instrumental in helping India build on the momentum created by Team India's openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Gambhir further said, "He (Suriyakumar) has many options. He plays a very good spin. He has all the shots, he is also a 360 player. That is why it becomes very difficult for him to bowl. When. When Virat Kohli comes back, I still want to see Suryakumar bat at No. 3 and Virat at No. 4.

"It gives India the option to continue the momentum as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are very explosive at the top. Surya at No. 3 could be the best option as he can keep the momentum going and Virat can play at No. 4," he said. Just like Steve Smith has been for Australia. If you lose some early wickets, Virat can manage that middle order."
