Today is the birthday of former Team India cricketer Raman Lamba. Born on 2 January 1960 in Meerut, Raman Lamba is the same player who died due to a ball hitting his head during a match. Cricket fans will hardly ever forget the tragic accident that happened to him on the cricket field. When he became a victim of the accident in February 1998, the entire cricket world was plunged into an atmosphere of mourning. Actually, Raman Lamba was seriously injured due to a batsman's fast shot hitting his head and then lost the battle of life.

Raman's start on the cricket field was quite spectacular but his end was very scary. In 1998, in a club cricket match in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Lamba was fielding at forward short leg. He was without a helmet, during this time a powerful shot of batsman Mehrab Hussain hit him directly on the head. After which he was admitted to the Post Graduate Hospital in Dhaka. But after 3 days of treatment, he died on 23 February 1998. Before this incident, his captain Khalid Masood had also advised him to wear a helmet, but he refused. As soon as the ball hit his head, Lamba fell on the ground and his words were I am dead yaar.

Raman Lamba played 4 Tests and 32 ODIs for India in his international career. Lamba, who played for Delhi in domestic cricket, started his international career with an ODI against Australia in Jaipur on 7 September 1986. He played his first Test against Sri Lanka in 1986. During this time, he scored 102 runs with the help of 1 half-century in Tests. On the other hand, in ODIs, he scored 783 runs at an average of 27.00, which included 6 half-centuries and 1 century.
