Hemang Badani has taken over as the head coach of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. He has replaced Ricky Ponting. Delhi's new coach recently made a shocking revelation about Rishabh Pant. During a recent interview, he alleged that the franchise wanted to retain Pant, but Pant himself wanted to go to the mega auction. He felt his market value was high, so he left the team. Now his statement seems to be proven false. Because the franchise owner Parth Jindal had said exactly the opposite.

What did Parth Jindal say about Pant's retention?

The players were auctioned on 24 and 25 November for IPL 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After the auction was over, franchise owner Parth Jindal expressed regret over not being able to include Pant back in the team. He also talked about the decision not to retain him. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Parth Jindal revealed that Pant's decision to leave Delhi had nothing to do with money. He had said, 'Money was never a problem for neither Rishabh nor us. We were just on different paths.'

Jindal had also said that he wanted to retain Pant at any cost. There was a lot of discussion between the two but no consensus could be reached on how to operate the team. Therefore, he was not retained. The head coach and the owner of the team have said two different things. From this, it can be assumed that head coach Hemang Badani is making false allegations against Pant.

tried to buy it back

577 players participated during the IPL mega auction, out of which 182 were bought by 10 different teams and included in their team. Delhi fans were hoping that Rishabh Pant would be bought back through the Right to Match card during this time, but this could not happen. However, Delhi did try for this. When the Lucknow team bid 20.25 crores for him, Parth Jindal used the Right to Match card. After this, Lucknow increased the bid to 27 crores. Due to less money in the purse, he had to be left out. Jindal had said that he was ready to give up to 22-23 crores. With this, Pant became the most expensive player in the history of the league.
