Champions Trophy 2025: Who will reach the semi-finals if there are equal points in the group, know the equation

Now only a few hours are left for the start of the Champions Trophy 2025. This ICC tournament will start with the Pakistan-New Zealand match on 19 February. A total of eight teams are participating in the Champions Trophy and these teams have been divided into two groups. Group A has India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Group B has England, Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan. The top teams in their group will qualify for the semi-finals. But the question is that if the points of both the top-2 teams are equal, then which team will be the number 1 and what will happen if three teams have equal points? If the semi-final match is canceled or there is a tie, then how will the way forward be found? Let us answer all these questions.

Who will reach the semi-finals if there are equal points?

All the teams of both groups will play one match each in the group stage against the teams of their respective groups. All the teams will get two points for winning one match in the group stage. On the other hand, if the match is tied, both the teams will get one point each. The team which wins the most will be on top of its group. If the teams in the group have equal points and equal wins, then the decision will be taken on the basis of their net run rate. On the other hand, suppose the points of two or more teams are still equal, then they will be placed according to the results of the matches played between them in their group.

What happens if the semi-final is tied or cancelled?

The number one team of Group A will face the number 2 team of Group B in the semi-finals. While another semi-final will be between the number 1 team of Group B and the number 2 team of Group B. If the semi-final match is tied, then the decision will be made by a super over. But if the super over is not possible and the match is canceled due to rain or other reason, then the top team in the group will qualify for the final. The final can be held on March 9 in Dubai or Lahore. March 10 has been kept as a reserve day.
