The Government of India is constantly trying to promote sports in the country. For this, the Khelo India scheme is run by the central government. Under this, work is done to increase the sports infrastructure at the grassroots level, increase the interest of youth in sports, and create a sports culture in the country. On behalf of the Government of India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament on Saturday, February 1. During this, she announced an increase in the budget of 'Khelo India'. The Finance Minister has allocated 1000 crores for this scheme, increasing it by 100 crores compared to last time. Let us tell you that last time Rs 900 crores were allocated for this scheme.

Continuous investment in Khelo India's budget

Last time also the budget of Khelo India was increased. The Finance Minister had increased 20 crores in comparison to the financial year 2023-24 and increased the budget of this scheme from Rs 880 to Rs 900 crore. At the same time, Rs 596.39 crore was allocated for Khelo India in the financial year 2022-23. The government increased 400 crores in the very next budget and made it 1000 crores. However, later it was changed and kept at 880 crores. Let us tell you that Khelo India was started in the year 2018. Since then, the Government of India has invested heavily in this scheme, so that the emerging sports talent from different parts of the country can be brought to the fore.

What was the sports budget last year

Last year, Paris Olympics was held in July-August. At that time, the full-time budget was presented by the Government of India. Then, the Sports Ministry's budget was increased by Rs 45.36 crore and a total of Rs 3442.32 crore was allocated for sports, while before that Rs 3396.96 crore was announced for the sports budget. However, this time in the budget, only Khelo India has been announced. So far, no separate allocation has been made for the National Sports Fund and SAI.
