BNP Paribas: Azarenka in the semi-finals for the fourth time, will now compete with Ostapenko
Two-time former champion Victoria Azarenka entered the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament for the fourth time. 27th seed Azarenka of Belarus defeated 19th seed Jessica Pegul of America 6-4, 6-2 in a match that lasted one hour and 24 minutes.
This is Azarenka's 32nd win here. Only two players Lindsay Davenport (47) and Maria Sharapova (38) have won more matches here. Azarenka, who became the first player to reach the last four of the current tournament, will now face Yelena Ostapenko of Latvia. Ostapenko ousted American's Shelby Rogers 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Dimitrov kicks out Medvedev
World number two tennis player Daniil Medvedev's dream of reaching the quarter-finals for the first time has been shattered once again. Top seed Medvedev lost to 23rd seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 in the fourth round in a match that lasted two hours and 16 minutes.
Bulgaria's Dimitrov beat any of the top two after five years. Earlier in 2016, he had defeated Andy Murray at the Miami Open. This is Dimitrov's second win against Medvedev in five matches. First-time quarter-finalist Dimitrova will face Hubert Hurkaz, who defeated Russia's Aslan Karatsev 6-1, 6-3.
Zverev au Tsitsipas also proceeded
Germany's Alexander Zverev and Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas also advanced to the last-8. Zverev defeated Gael Monfils 6-1, 6-3, and Tsitsipas beat Alex de Minaur 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. Cameron Nouri defeated Tommy Paul 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, Taylor Fitz defeated Yannick Siner 6-4, 6-3 and Nikoloz B defeated Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-6.
