Indian captain Rohit Sharma registered two major achievements in his name by scoring a half-century against Sri Lanka in the Super Four match of the Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma scored 53 runs in the match. On the basis of this inning, he completed his ten thousand runs in ODI wickets.

He became the sixth player from India to achieve this feat in ODI cricket. Before them, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have scored more than ten thousand runs in ODIs. Rohit Sharma also completed eight thousand runs as an opener on the basis of this innings.

He became the fastest batsman to achieve this feat. He completed eight thousand runs in his 160th innings as an opener. Earlier this record was held in the name of South African star batsman Hashim Amla. Amla had completed eight thousand runs in 173 innings.
