Army Day 2025: From Dhoni to Neeraj, these star players hold big positions in the army, some are Lieutenant Colonel and some are Subedar Major

You must have heard many stories of the indomitable courage of our army soldiers and their heroic saga. Every year 15 January is celebrated as Army Day in memory of the brave soldiers and martyrs who fought the enemies of the country without caring for their lives. But very few of you would know that many famous players are also related to the army. These include great players Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Abhinav Bindra to Neeraj Chopra. These players are posted at some post or the other in the army. So let us know who is a Lieutenant Colonel and who is a Subedar.
Dhoni-Abhinav is a lieutenant colonel
Famous athlete Neeraj Chopra, who won gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and silver medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, is in the army. Neeraj received this honor in the year 2016. He is in the post of Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Subedar Major in the Rajputana Rifles unit.
Former Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and shooter Abhinav Bindra have earned fame worldwide for their respective sports. Both these sports legends hold the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. MS Dhoni was given the honorary rank in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Territorial Army (106 Para TA Battalion) in the year 2011.
Abhinav, who won the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was also given the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2011. Former captain and legendary player Kapil Dev, who won India's first ODI World Cup, joined the Indian Territorial in 2008. The army included him as an icon.
Sachin Tendulkar is a Group Captain in the Air Force
Although Sachin Tendulkar, who is called the 'God of Cricket', is not in the Army, he is a part of the Indian Air Force. In the year 2010, the Indian Air Force made him a Group Captain. He was given the standard rank. This post is above the Wing Commander. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was given this honor for his contribution to cricket.
