Sunil Gavaskar came to the rescue of Virat Kohli and said when Rohit Sharma scores a run, no one talks...!

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed Kohli for his declining batting form. Kohli, who returned to India's squad after missing the first T20I against England as a part of workload management, scored 1 and 11 in the remaining two matches against the team. As his poor form with the bat continued, many former cricketers and fans lashed out at Kohli saying he should be dropped, but Gavaskar feels the team management should give the right-hander some more time.

Gavaskar was open enough to say that no one questions when Rohit Sharma or any other batsman fails to score runs. When asked about Kohli's form from Gavaskar to sports, he said, "I don't understand why when Rohit Sharma doesn't score runs, no one talks about it. When no other player scores run. So no one talks about it."

Kohli had aimed to play aggressive cricket from the beginning of his innings against England, but he failed to play a noticeable inning.

"The kind of template that Kohli is using, where you have to go out and run your bat, you fail many times. We have a selection committee and they will think about it," Gavaskar said.

He said that "I think, there is still time (for team selection for T20 World Cup 2022)."

India won the T20I series against England 2-1 as India lost the last match by 17 runs. The first two games were won by 50 and 49 runs respectively.

The two teams will now face each other in a three-match ODI series at Lord's London from July 12. Kohli is also part of the Indian team for the series.
