If Ashwin Ravichandran can be dropped from T20Is then why not Virat Kohli? Kapil Dev asked the question!

Former India captain Kapil Dev feels that if a bowler of the caliber of Ravichandran Ashwin can be dropped from the playing XI of the Test team, then Virat Kohli too survives all these things in T20Is after a prolonged bad patch.

Kohli has not been scoring big runs for almost three years now and the World Cup-winning all-rounder feels that the Indian team management will suffer if the in-form players are not given enough opportunities to showcase their skills.

Kapil Dev said- "Yes, now the situation is such that you can be forced to drop Kohli from the T20 playing XI. If the world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from the Test team then the world No. 1 batsman can also be dropped."

The great cricketer said- "Virat is not batting at the level that we have seen him do over the years. He has earned a name because of his performance but if he is not performing, then you can take the performing youngsters from the team."

He wants to see a healthy competition for the young players along with the star players to take on the challenges. "I want to compete for a place in the team in a positive sense that these young players try to outperform Virat," he said.

Kapil feels that if Kohli is "rested" for the West Indies T20Is, it will be considered a "drop". "You can call it relaxation. Everyone will have their own opinion. Obviously, if the selectors don't pick him (Kohli), it could be because he is not performing," he added.

Kapil said that the playing XI should be selected on the basis of current form and not on the basis of past reputation.

"When you have a lot of options, give chances to in-form players," Kapil said. "You can't just go by reputation but you have to look at the current form. You can be an established player but that doesn't mean you will be given chances even if you fail five matches in a row," he added. ,
