But, before that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has to announce the 15-member team. In which there can be a surprise entry of many players. India (Team India) has to play a 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka. This series will start in the year 2026. Both teams will be seen playing in August. But, BCCI can give rest to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both the players are struggling with poor form in Tests. Virat-Rohit disappointed with the bat against New Zealand and Australia. 

After which the demand to drop him from the team had gained momentum. In such a situation, the selectors can give him rest against Sri Lanka. So that he can return refreshed for the upcoming tour. In such a situation, Jaspreet Bumrah can be chosen as the captain. He has captained India in 3 Tests. In which 1 win and 2 defeats were made. Shubman Gill can be chosen as the vice-captain. 

These players may return to Team India 

If Virat Kohli is dropped,  Shreyas Iyer can be selected in the middle order. He is in great form at the moment. In Ranji, we saw many great innings from his bat. He is also in good form in the Champions Trophy. Apart from this, Abhimanyu Easwaran can make his debut. He can open the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Although he was selected against Australia. But, he could not be a part of even a single match. The selectors will also keep an eye on Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami.
