11 sixes, 15 fours… Vaibhav Suryavanshi's friend created a stir in the 50-over match, missed out on scoring a double-century
It is said that good things come from the company, and bad things go away from the company. Now you must be aware of the explosive style and temperament of 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. But, his teammates are no less. They are 5 years older than Vaibhav. But in the absence of senior players, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre has established his dominance in a way that is beyond description. He has rained runs with his bat for Mumbai. He tore apart the bowlers of Nagaland and played them in such a way that the scene was worth watching. And, all this was seen on the pitch of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Ayush Mhatre opens up about Nagaland batsmen.
On 31 December, Mumbai will play against Nagaland on Vijay Hazare pitch. 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi started the innings for Mumbai who came to bat first. Both the batsmen made a lot of runs as an opening pair. They played in such a way that they scored 156 runs for the first wicket on the scoreboard. Angkrish got out but Ayush Mhatre was still standing on the crease. And, this was more bad news for Nagaland. Why Ayush Mhatre was on the wicket was like bad news for Nagaland was soon seen.
Ayush Mhatre's stormy century and Mumbai's second big score
Ayush Mhatre scored 181 runs facing 117 balls against Nagaland. That means he was just 19 runs away from his double century. His innings played at a strike rate of more than 154 including 11 sixes and 15 fours. This is the first century of the 17-year-old batsman's List-A career. Due to this century from Ayush's bat, Mumbai scored 403 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs against Nagaland. This is the second highest score of Mumbai team in List A cricket.
17-year-old Ayush Mhatre is the same batsman who was fighting shoulder to shoulder with Vaibhav Suryavanshi against India's opponents in the recently concluded Under-19 Asia Cup. He, along with Vaibhav, finished the ODI match against Japan in just 16 overs. Ayush Mhatre has also shown the same speed and attitude in batting for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
