As Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has become a major form of digital payment in India, applications such as Google Pay, Paytm, and BharatPe are the most widely used. Now, Zomato is also all set to join the race with its Zomato UPI.

Food delivery and grocery company Zomato has launched its UPI service in partnership with ICICI Bank. Customers using Zomato can now sign in to the application and create their own UPI ID, after which they will be able to make payments through the app itself.

This means that while ordering food on Zomato, you will not be redirected to another UPI application like Google Pay, Paytm, or PhonePe. You can now pay your food bills directly through your Zomato UPI account.

The move has been brought forward to reduce the dependency on third-party payment applications as well as reduce the number of cash-on-delivery (COD) orders. Another reason why Paytm and Google Pay are disrupting business is that for creating a Zomato UPI account, you will not be asked to do KYC.
