Zika Virus In India: The news of a suspected case of Zika virus being registered in Nellore district of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has caused a stir. A 6-year-old boy from Venkatapuram village in Marripadu mandal was taken to a private hospital in Nellore by his family members after he developed health problems.
Doctors treating the child at the
hospital developed several suspicions based on his symptoms and investigated him. The doctors are now waiting for the report.
As a precautionary measure, the family members, on the advice of doctors, admitted the child to a private hospital in Chennai where he is undergoing treatment. After the rumours of Zika virus spread, the district medical and health department swung into action and a medical camp was set up in Venkatapuram village.
The people of the village are being made aware of the virus and they are being given necessary medicines and treatment. Medical and health department officials have said that they are taking all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Zika virus.
State Government Statement
Andhra Pradesh Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy reacted to the Zika virus outbreak in Nellore district. The boy, hailing from a village in Marripadu mandal, has already been transferred to Chennai, he said. Arrangements have been made to provide better treatment to the boy with symptoms of the virus. He also said that a special medical team visited the village and conducted medical tests on the people there. The government will take all necessary steps and no one needs to fear," he said.
