The great festival of faith, Maha Kumbh, began on 13 January with Makar Sankranti. It will conclude on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, i.e. on 26 February. Naga Sadhus, who are one of the main attractions of Maha Kumbh, started returning from Maha Kumbh after Basant Panchami. Why are they returning from Maha Kumbh, know about it in detail in this article.

During the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, lakhs of devotees took a dip of faith in the holy Sangam, and Naga sadhus and saints from akhadas across the country also reached here for bathing. In this Maha Kumbh, people thronged to take Amrit bath as well as to have darshan of sadhus and saints from all over the country and to get their blessings. But, now all the Naga sadhus are going back with their respective akhadas. Everyone has this question in their mind that if the festival of Maha Kumbh will continue till Mahashivratri, then why are the Naga sadhus going back from now? Let us know in detail from Jyotishcharya Pandit Arvind Tripathi in this article.

After all, why are Naga Sadhus returning from Maha Kumbh?

Naga Sadhus leave all the comforts of their life and remain completely absorbed in meditation. Usually they do penance in ashrams, mountains and forests, but whenever Kumbh Mela is organized, all these Naga Sadhus and saints come there and get the virtue of Amrit Snan. This time the first Amrit Snan of the Mahakumbh organized in Prayagraj was done on 14 January Makar Sankranti. The second Amrit Snan was done on Mauni Amavasya and the third on Basant Panchami. Amrit Snan has special significance for the saints and sages. It

is believed that by taking Amrit Snan, one gets the virtue equivalent to one thousand Ashvamedha Yagyas. After Amrit Snan in Mahakumbh, the saints meditate and discuss religious knowledge, so after taking the third and last Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami, all the Naga Sadhus and saints are returning from Mahakumbh with their respective Akharas. The reason for this is that from Paush Purnima to Basant Panchami, Sun God was in Capricorn and Jupiter was in Taurus. Due to which the Naga Sadhus performed Amrit Snan on auspicious dates and now the Sun God is going to enter Aquarius and Jupiter will enter Gemini. Due to which bathing will be done on these dates, but Amrit Snan will no longer be done on these dates and Amrit Snan is very auspicious for the Naga Sadhus and now due to not having Amrit Snan on these dates, they are returning from Maha Kumbh.

When will Naga Sadhus be seen again?

Naga Sadhus, who are known for their mysterious and harsh lifestyle, appear together in large numbers only during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Common people get to see them only once a year. The next gathering of Naga Sadhus will be seen in the Maha Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik in the year 2027. This fair will be organized on the banks of the Godavari River in Nashik, where thousands of Naga Sadhus will gather and follow their religious traditions. This Maha Kumbh is an important occasion for Naga Sadhus, where they take their penance and sadhana to even greater heights. Seeing this gathering of Naga Sadhus is a wonderful and inspiring experience in itself.
