The entire Himalayas are considered holy places of Lord Shiva, be it Kedarnath, Mount Kailash, Mansarovar, or Amarnath. Reaching any of these holy places dedicated to Lord Shiva is not an easy task. Today we are going to tell you about a place where a challenging journey of 18,570 feet has to be done.
This place is called Shrikhand Mahadev, which is situated near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. To catch a glimpse of Lord Shiva here, the pilgrims have to undertake an arduous journey of 35 kms, which is full of risks and challenges.

The Shivling located at this place is unique, which is about 72 feet in height. There are seven temples on the way to Shrikhand Mahadev. The pilgrimage to this holy site begins in July and consists of three stages: Sinhagad, Thachadu, and Bhima Dwar.
It is believed that Lord Vishnu had given a boon to Lord Shiva to destroy the demon Bhasmasura through dance. While dancing, Bhasmasur put his hand on his own head and was reduced to ashes.

To reach Shrikhand Mahadev, one has to first reach Shimla and then go to Nirmand and Baghipul. From there the journey continues till Jaon, where you will find the way to Shrikhand.
