Parashara drowned in the love of Matsyagandha

Once Sage Parashar was on a pilgrimage. While wandering, he came to the banks of Yamuna and asked a fisherman to take him across the river. The fisherman was cooking food at that time, so he asked his daughter Matsyagandha to take the sage across the Yamuna. As soon as Sage Parashar's eyes fell on Matsyagandha, the sage was filled with lust. He expressed his feelings to Matsyagandha.

Day turned into night

Matsagandha thought that if I did not respect the wishes of the sage, he would curse me. She told the sage that my body smells like fish. How did you get lustful about me? Sage Parashar has made Matsyagandha fragrant with his powers. Then the girl said how can I have sex during the day? The sage made the banks of Yamuna dark with his austerity powers.

Birth of Maharishi Ved Vyas

Matsagandha further told the sage that if I have sex with you then my virginity will be lost. If I become a mother then my life will be over. Then the sage gave her a boon that you will remain a virgin even after I have sex with you. After this, he had sex with Matsagandha and left. Matsagandha who later came to be known as Satyavati, gave birth to a son named Krishnadvaipayana. He later became famous as Maharishi Ved Vyas.
