Dr Abhisar Katiyar, Consultant in the Department of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at Yatharth Super Specialty Hospital, Noida, says that you may be surprised to know that cracking sounds in the knees is a normal thing. Even if someone is 25-30 years old and is facing this problem, there is no need to panic.
Dr. Katiyar says that as age increases, some new bones are formed in the body, some change their shape and some small bones become extra. When a person moves, like he gets up or stands while sitting, bends the joint and sits, these bones make noise due to colliding with each other or coming over each other.
Dr. says that there is nothing to worry about or get scared if any joint like the neck, shoulder, wrist or other makes such noise, not just the knee. This is normal and it can happen in both youth and old age.
The point to be kept in mind is that if there is no pain along with the sound of 'kat-kat' then do not worry. It is just like the different parts of a vehicle move together smoothly and there is engine oil in between them. Similarly, there is cartilage in the bones which keeps them smooth.
But if there is a grinding sound along with severe pain while moving the knees by bending them, then go to the doctor. Pain means that there is a problem in the knees or joints and it can increase due to negligence.
Why does cracking occur at the age of 25-30?
Dr. Katiyar says that although cracking sound in joints is normal, our lifestyle is responsible for it. Young people eat outside food, junk food etc. They do not exercise or do yoga. They stay awake till late at night. They do not get enough sunlight so vitamin D3 is produced in the body. In such a situation, some essential elements from food which are required for the smoothening of bones and their easy movement are not available.
Apart from this, obesity in the youth is also responsible for these joint problems. It has been observed that the joints of obese people also make more noise. Due to all these deficiencies, the thickness of the cartilage between the bones starts decreasing and a time comes when the bones start disintegrating and the patient moves towards arthritis.
What to do to prevent this?
The most important thing is to eat enough protein, amino acid-rich food. Include milk and milk products in the diet. If you do not eat eggs and are a vegetarian, then eat soybeans or cheese. Take care of children's diet from the beginning.
. Keep carbohydrates and calcium in adequate quantity in the food.
. Make sure to sit in the sun for Vitamin D3. Do not take its supplements, take direct sunlight.
