There is growing concern about poor eating habits in India. According to a new report, 38% of people in the country are consuming salty, oily snacks and other unhealthy foods. At the same time, the consumption of fresh vegetables, fruits, and other micronutrient-rich foods is decreasing. This information has been given in a report titled 'Global Food Policy Report 2024: Healthy Diet and Nutrition' released by the US International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).

According to the report, 16.6% of the population in India suffers from malnutrition due to poor diet. 4 out of 10 people ate unhealthy food, while only 2 people consumed 5 recommended food groups. These groups include starch-rich food, vegetables, fruits, pulses, and nuts. At the same time, packaged food and snacks often contain high amounts of sugar, fat, and sodium, which can increase the risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other health problems. Whereas, fresh vegetables, fruits, and other micronutrient-rich foods provide the body with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which are important for good health.

- Packaged food and snacks are also often high in unsaturated fat, which can increase the risk of heart disease.

- They are also high in sodium, which can cause high blood pressure.

- They lack the nutrients that the body needs for good health.
