You have to light this lamp after sunset when it starts getting dark.

2. On the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, light a mustard oil lamp for your ancestors in the south direction outside the house. According to religious beliefs, when ancestors return to their world on the evening of Amavasya, there is light on their path, due to which they are happy and give blessings.

3. On the day of Amavasya, ancestors come to earth near the photo of their ancestors and expect tarpan, pinddaan etc. from their descendants. If all this is done then it is very good.
