This study was done by researchers from the University of Birmingham, Britain. In this study, the sleep patterns of more than 12 thousand children were analyzed. Researchers took information about the children's sleep duration between the ages of 6 months and 7 years and then evaluated their mental health at the age of 24 years.

The results of the study were shocking. Researchers found that children who consistently slept less had more than double the risk of psychosis as adults. Additionally, the risk of psychotic episodes in such children also increased almost four times. A psychotic episode is a condition in which a person loses touch with reality and starts having delusions.

Dr. Isabel Morales-Munoz, lead author of the study, says that this study does not prove a direct cause-and-effect link between lack of sleep and psychosis, but it certainly shows a strong connection.
