'Sakarai Pongal' dish is made on the second day of Pongal, know the recipe

The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country. From this day onwards, Pongal festival is celebrated in the southern Indian state of Kerala. This festival lasts for four days, in which many traditions are followed. This time the Pongal festival will start from 14th and will continue till 17th January. On the second day of Pongal festival, the traditional dish 'Sakarai Pongal' is made. Which is amazing to eat. This is a dessert which is prepared by mixing many ingredients including rice, lentils, dry fruits.
Sakkarai Pongal or Sweet Pongal is traditionally made and served in South Indian homes during the celebration of Pongal festival. The process of making this tasty dessert is not very long nor does it take much time to prepare. Let's know what is the recipe of Sakkarai Pongal.
What will be needed to make Sakkarai Pongal?
To make sweet Pongal, you will need at least one cup of rice, one-fourth or a little more moong dal, jaggery equal to the amount of rice (you can increase or decrease it according to taste), three to four spoons of cashew nuts, raisins, green cardamom, one-fourth cup of pure Desi ghee, a little milk and half a cup of coconut (grated). Keep all these things together so that you do not face any problem while making it.

Soak the rice for at least half an hour and also soak the moong dal.
How to make Sakkarai Pongal
- Take a thick bottom pan and add desi ghee in it. Now fry cashews, raisins and take them out in a plate.
- Put the soaked rice and moong dal in the cooker along with water and keep it to cook on medium flame.
- Turn off the gas after three whistles. This will ensure that the lentils and rice are cooked well.
- Put jaggery, one cup water and two spoons of ghee in a pan and heat it. This syrup will be ready.
- After the syrup is ready, mash the cooked rice and lentils well in the cooker and mix them in the syrup.
- Cook Sakkarai Pongal by adding milk on low flame so that the syrup gets mixed well.
- When Sakkarai Pongal is ready, add fried dry fruits and cardamom powder to it.
