Relationships are an important part of our lives, whether they are family, friends, or love relationships. Everyone wants their relationships to be strong and happy. But the question arises what makes relationships happy? To find the answer to this question, a study was recently conducted, the results of which have been published in the 'Journal of Experimental Social Psychology'.

In this research, social scientists examined how two types of interpersonal knowledge in relationships make people feel about their relationships. The first knowledge focused on how well a person knows his partner - their personality, life decisions, background, etc. Whereas, the second knowledge was about how well a person believes that his partner understands him (his likes-dislikes, desires, and dreams).

Both these aspects are important in relationships, but through this study, scientists wanted to know what is more important and what makes people feel happier and more satisfied in their relationships. After all, what is the sign of a happy relationship? How well do you know your partner or how well does he understand you?

Study findings

The study found that most people felt happier and more satisfied in their relationships when they believed that their partner understood them well. This is because people generally like to talk about themselves, they want to be heard and understood. A report in Psychology Today states that for relationships to be strong, both partners should feel that their partner really understands them.

Friends and colleagues

This applies not only to romantic relationships but also to other relationships such as friends and colleagues. For example, asking a friend about their family or helping a colleague through a difficult situation makes them feel important and that you understand them. This can strengthen your relationship. Partners can strengthen their relationship by asking each other deep questions. These questions can be related to future plans, fears, and aspirations. This will help them get to know each other better and move forward together.
