Recipe: Make coconut barfi at home for your brother on this Raksha Bandhan!

Coconut barfi is a delicious Indian dessert made using grated coconut, sugar, and milk. It is a popular dessert often made during festivals and special occasions. You can also make Coconut Barfi for your brother on this Rakshabandhan and today we have brought the recipe for the same. 

Ingredients:

2 cups grated coconut 

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup milk

1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder

2 tablespoons ghee

Chopped nuts for garnishing (optional)

Instruction:

Grease a square or rectangular tray with a little ghee and keep it aside.

In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat 1 tablespoon ghee over medium heat.

Add grated coconut to the pan and roast it for a few minutes till it starts to smell nice and turns slightly golden. Keep stirring to avoid burning.

Pour milk into the coconut and continue cooking on low heat. Stir occasionally. 

Make a syrup by dissolving sugar in a little water in another pan. You can add a few drops of lemon juice to it to prevent crystallization.

When the sugar syrup reaches a one-string consistency, add it to the coconut mixture. Be careful as the mixture may explode.

Mix well and continue cooking on medium heat. The mixture will start getting thick.

Keep stirring till the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan and comes together as a mass.

Add cardamom powder and the remaining tablespoon of ghee. mix well.

When the mixture becomes thick and homogeneous, pour it into a greased tray.

Flatten and flatten the mixture using a spatula. You can also garnish it with chopped nuts like almonds, pistachios or cashews.

Let the coconut barfi cool down and set for a few hours. You can refrigerate it to speed up the process.

When the barfi is completely set, cut it into desired shapes with the help of a sharp knife.
