You can apply for compensation if your luggage is stolen from a train or railway station. To do this, you have to provide a First Information Report (FIR) along with a form to the Railway Police.

The form states that if the goods are not returned within 6 months then you can apply to the consumer forum. After this, the forum can issue an order to compensate for the loss to the Railways.
