To make delicious Poha, you can follow this recipe:


  • 1 cup flattened rice (poha)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small potato, peeled and diced
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Lemon wedges for garnish
  • Cooking oil


  1. Rinse the flattened rice (poha) in a colander under running water for a few seconds. Drain and keep it aside for 10 minutes to allow it to soften.

  2. Heat oil in a pan or kadhai over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.

  3. Add the chopped onion, green chili, and sauté until the onion turns translucent.

  4. Add the diced potato and green peas. Cook for a few minutes until the potato becomes tender.

  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt. Mix well to coat the vegetables evenly.

  6. Add the softened flattened rice (poha) to the pan. Gently mix everything together, ensuring the poha is evenly coated with the spices. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Add roasted peanuts and mix well.

  8. Turn off the heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

  9. Serve hot with a squeeze of lemon juice on top.
