One year has been completed of “PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme” launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 February 2024. The objective of this scheme is to make the electricity bill zero by installing solar panels in homes and make lakhs of families financially self-reliant. So far 8.46 lakh houses have benefited from this scheme and the government has set a target of installing solar panels in 1 crore houses by March 2027.   • Solar panels are being installed in 70,000 houses across the country every month, which is 10 times more than before.
  • Up to 40% subsidy is being given by the government.
  • Subsidy of Rs 4,308.66 crore has been given to 5.54 lakh houses so far.
  • Each family has received an average financial assistance of Rs 77,800.
  • Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, electricity bills of 45% beneficiaries have become zero.
