This year Pitru Paksha is starting from 29th September. Pitrupaksha (Pitrupaksha 2023) is a fortnight to seek the blessings of ancestors. It consists of 16 days. Every year Pitru Paksha starts from Bhadrapada Purnima and ends on Ashwin Amavasya. Three dates have special significance in Pitru Paksha. You can do many things to please your ancestors, which makes them happy and blesses you. If you do not do anything for your ancestors on these dates in Pitru Paksha, then you do not get their blessings. Actually, all the dates are important in Pitru Paksha because on every date someone's ancestor has passed away and their Shraddha, Tarpan, etc. is performed. But Bharani Shraddha, Navami Shraddha, and Sarva Pitru Amavasya or Amavasya Shraddha are important dates in Pitru Paksha.

These three dates have special significance

1. Bharani Shraddha

This year, along with Chaturthi Shraddha, Bharani Shraddha will also be held on 2nd October. According to the Hindu calendar, Bharani Nakshatra will remain till 6:24 pm on October 2. Bharani Shraddha must be performed one year after the death of any family member. Shraddha of those who die unmarried is performed on Panchami Tithi and it is better if there is Bharani Nakshatra on that day. Apart from this, a person who does not undertake a pilgrimage in his lifetime has to perform Bharani Shraddha at places like Gaya, Pushkar, etc. for salvation.

2. Navami Shraddha

Navami Shraddha of Pitru Paksha is known as Matri Shraddha or Matri Navami. This year Navami Shraddha is on 7th October. On this date, Shraddha is performed for the parents of the family like the mother, grandmother, and maternal uncle. This day is dedicated to parents. If Tarpan, Pind Daan, Shraddha, etc. are not done for the ancestors on this day, then their blessings are not received. Due to this, you may suffer from Pitra Dosh.

3. Sarva Pitru Amavasya

Sarva Pitru Amavasya or Amavasya Shraddha is performed on Ashwin Amavasya. This year Sarva Pitru Amavasya is on 14 October. On the day of Amavasya, Shraddha is performed for all those ancestors whose death date is unknown or you do not know your ancestors. In such a situation, you can perform Shraddha, Pind Daan, Tarpan, etc. of all your known and unknown ancestors on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya.
