It is auspicious to offer Pinddaan to ancestors during Pitru Paksha but doing any auspicious work or buying any goods in the house is considered inauspicious. If you buy some things during Pitru Paksha then poverty is sure to come to your house.

Shraddha rules

There is a belief in our ancient Hindu culture that no auspicious work should be started on the day of Pitru Paksha and neither should any item be purchased. On this day, we remember and commemorate our ancestors. Therefore, some texts of Vedic astrology tell which works or new works should not be done on this day. Let us know about it in detail.

Buying new property, vehicle, clothes

Buying new clothes, jewellery, property, vehicle or any important item in Pitru Paksha is considered inauspicious during this time, as it is considered a period of austerity and simplicity.

No auspicious events

Avoid any kind of celebration including weddings, housewarmings or festivals. Remember that Pitru Paksha is not a celebration but a time of mourning.

Abstain from meat

Avoid the consumption of meat, alcohol and other intoxicants. This period is for spiritual purification and abstaining from this meat is a symbol of respect towards the ancestors.

Do not cut hair and nails

Cutting hair or nails during Pitru Paksha is generally considered inauspicious, as it is believed to insult the ancestral spirits.

Maintain peace at home

Try to maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere at home. Avoid fights, disputes or any kind of negativity that disturbs the peace of the departed souls.

Avoid night travel

Avoid travelling at night during Pitru Paksha in general, as this time is considered dangerous and inauspicious.

Do not eat Shraddha Prasad

Do not eat the food prepared for the Shraddha ritual before offering it to the ancestors. This food is dedicated to the departed souls and eating it beforehand is considered disrespectful.

Do not disrespect Brahmins or guests

Treat Brahmins and guests, especially those engaged in Shraddha rituals, with utmost respect during this period. Disrespecting them is considered the same as disrespecting the ancestors.

If you do not do these things during Pitru Paksha, you will show respect to your ancestors. It is believed that the rituals performed during this period bring peace and blessings to the departed souls and the living family members.
