PF Rules Update: EPF Members Can Modify Personal Details Without Documents

Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a major change, allowing EPF members to update their personal details without the need for document uploads, provided their Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked to Aadhaar.
Key Changes in PF Rules
Under the revised policy, EPF members can now update:
-
Name
-
Date of birth
-
Gender
-
Nationality
-
Father's or mother's name
-
Marital status
-
Spouse's name
-
Date of joining and leaving
No Document Submission Required
Previously, members needed employer approval and had to submit supporting documents for such modifications, leading to an average 28-day delay. With this update, 7 crore EPF members stand to benefit from a simplified process.
Who Still Needs Employer Approval?
EPFO clarified that out of 8 lakh correction requests received in FY 2024-25, around 45% of cases can now be updated without employer verification. However, if the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017, employer approval will still be required for any modifications.
Aadhaar-PAN Linking Mandatory
To make updates or withdraw funds, linking Aadhaar and PAN with the EPF account is mandatory. Any mismatch between EPFO and Aadhaar details could lead to delays in approval, which may extend the processing time by a few weeks, depending on the employer’s and EPFO’s verification.
Understanding UAN
A Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit unique identifier that enables EPF members to monitor their PF accounts. UAN is required for tasks like checking the PF balance and availing the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. Additionally, linking a bank account with Aadhaar is necessary for UAN activation.
