Pandavas had made this strict rule for private time with Draupadi, if anyone broke it, he would get such punishment!
Draupadi is the first woman in India who had five husbands? Or did she have relations with five men? But the biggest question is, do people today understand that Draupadi married only Arjun, so did she not have relations with everyone? The Pandavas were given 12 years of exile and 1 year of incognito. During this time, the five Pandavas lived in a potter's house and survived by begging. During this time, they got information about Draupadi's swayamvar.
A big fish was rotating in a machine. An arrow had to be shot in its eye and that too by looking at its reflection in the oil pot. Also, not one but five arrows had to be shot. Arjun won this competition. At that time Jarasandha, Shalya, Shishupal and Duryodhan, Dushasan and other Kauravas were also present. There was a lot of controversy during that time because the five Pandavas had arrived dressed as Brahmins. But due to the intervention of Lord Krishna, Draupadi was finally married.
Could not find a suitable groom
How she got married to the five Pandavas or how she became the wife of all the five Pandavas is a very long story. It is said that Draupadi was a very beautiful girl in her previous birth. Despite being endowed with all the virtues, she was not able to find a suitable groom, so she did penance of Lord Shankar and then Shankarji appeared. At that time Draupadi in a hurry asked for a boon five times, so with the blessing of Lord Shiva, she got five husbands in this birth.
When Lord Shiva blessed Draupadi to have five husbands, he also knew that she would have trouble fulfilling her duties as a wife to all five husbands. That is why he also blessed Draupadi that her virginity would be restored every day. In this way, Draupadi got five husbands while she was still a virgin.
Every year one Pandava's age was divided
However, it is said that Lord Krishna suggested her to spend time with one of the Pandavas every year to beget children. Also, when she is in her room with a Pandava, no other Pandava should enter her room. If any Pandava does so even by mistake, he has to undergo a year of exile.
It is believed that Draupadi, who was the wife of all the five Pandavas, lived with each Pandava for a period of 1 year. At that time, no other Pandava was allowed to enter Draupadi's residence. The punishment for breaking this rule was to stay out of the country for 1 year. Once Arjuna also had to suffer this punishment.
Draupadi-Yudhisthir's one year exile
Arjuna and Draupadi's one year exile had ended and Draupadi-Yudhisthir's one year exile had begun. Arjuna had accidentally left his bow and arrow at Draupadi's residence. But at that time he needed it to protect the animals of a Brahmin from some evil person. So to follow the Kshatriya Dharma, he broke the rule and entered Draupadi's residence to take the bow and arrow. Draupadi and Yudhisthir were together at that time. Later, as a punishment for this, Arjuna left the kingdom for one year.
