Lack of awareness about bone health

A survey by healthcare provider Pristine Care has found a huge lack of awareness about bone and joint health among Indians. National Bone and Joint Day is celebrated every year in India to spread awareness about the importance of healthy bones and joints. The research found that 60% of people suffering from persistent joint pain hesitate to seek professional medical advice. The study further revealed that only 1 in 5 respondents are aware of bone and joint health issues. These findings reveal a significant gap between awareness and action when it comes to bone and joint health.

No information about the 'bone density test'

More than one-third of respondents cited family history of bone and joint problems, highlighting genetic predisposition to these conditions. Furthermore, a staggering 67% of participants were unaware of bone density tests, which are an inaccessible diagnostic tool for early detection of bone diseases such as osteoporosis.

How will it improve?

Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, Co-Founder of Pristyn Care, emphasized, “Today, as we celebrate National Bone and Joint Day, the findings of our study highlight a pressing issue in Indian healthcare. There is a significant lack of awareness about bone and joint health. With 45% of respondents not aware of these important health concerns, there is an urgent need to prioritize public education and awareness initiatives. By providing the necessary tools and knowledge, we can empower Indians to take proactive steps towards better bone and joint health, ultimately improving the overall health and well-being of our country.”

Commenting on the results, Dr. DK Das, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon and Founder of Cure My Knee said, “The combination of widespread joint pain and significant family history of bone problems indicates a critical need for better preventive healthcare. The fact that 60% of people have not consulted a doctor about their symptoms highlights the discrepancy that can lead to missed diagnoses and untreated conditions. We must bridge this gap to improve early testing and treatment to reduce the incidence of serious bone and joint diseases.”
