Mumbai: Maharashtra Lokayukta slams BMC, says BMC is making excuses to demolish the wall of Amitabh's bungalow

The BMC ie Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is giving unnecessary excuses to delay the demolition of the compound wall of Amitabh Bachchan's waiting bungalow located in Juhu for the road widening project. Maharashtra Lokayukta said this on Tuesday.

order of justice
Maharashtra Lokayukta Justice V M Kanade, in his recent order, said that the demolition work was delayed by at least one year and the civic body should issue a notice in the name of Deputy Engineer (Roads) Western Suburb.

excuse of bmc
To this BMC had said that it has not yet demolished the wall of Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow as it does not have any contractor for the road widening project. The Shiv Sena-controlled civic body also said it would demolish the wall and acquire the land when it appoints a road contractor in the next financial year.

Lokayukta's reprimand
Whenever a road widening project is taken up, adequate budgetary provision is made by the BMC for implementation. Keeping this in mind, the Lokayukta said in its order that it is obvious that the BMC does not want to demolish the wall of the Bachchan family's bungalow by giving unnecessary excuses.

Congress's counterattack
Congress councilor Tulip Miranda said that in 2019 the BMC demolished the boundary wall of a building complex adjacent to Bachchan's bungalow and took a part of its land for road-width, but left the actor's bungalow untouched.

what was the plan
In 2017, the actor was asked to surrender a part of the bungalow land on Linking Road in Juhu to Amitabh Bachchan and his neighbors to decongest the traffic in the waiting lane leading to the ISKCON temple. The BMC had planned to widen the Sant Dnyaneshwar Road from 40 feet to 60 feet on the compound portion of the bungalow.
