Monkeypox Cases Reported in Kerala: The dangerous virus has once again knocked in Kerala, the far south state of India. State Health Minister Veena George said on Wednesday that 2 cases of monkeypox (mpox) have been reported in Kerala. He said two men, who recently returned to Kerala from the UAE (UAE), have tested positive for the disease.

According

to the statement of Health Minister Veena George, a person from Wayanad district was initially found infected, and later the infection was also confirmed in the test of another person from Kannur. Following reports of cases of the disease, the health department has directed those who came in contact with the patients, monitor for any symptoms and report them immediately. Kerala had reported a few cases of monkeypox after the disease spread across the world in September this year.

The Health Minister reiterated the importance of isolation for those coming from abroad with symptoms and advised surveillance for 21 days after coming in contact with infected persons. Preventive measures include adherence to strict hygiene and safety precautions.

How does monkeypox spread?

Monkeypox, unlike airborne diseases such as COVID-19 or H1N1, spreads exclusively through infected people, their bedding or clothing. The virus is particularly dangerous for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and pregnant women.

Symptoms

of the virus include fever, severe headache, swelling in the joints, back and muscle pain, and fatigue, followed by blisters-like rashes mainly on the face, limbs, palms and genitals, which appear dangerous in appearance.
