This auspicious festival is celebrated every year on Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. It is believed that the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place on this night and they both go on a trip together on this night. On this day people observe fast and perform rituals to please Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri. Offering white barfi and Panchamrit:

Offering white barfi to Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri removes negativity and brings happiness and prosperity to the house. On this day you can offer Panchamrit, milk and curd to Lord Bholenath.
