According to religious beliefs, Goddess Parvati received Lord Shiva as her husband after rigorous penance for many births. The divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place on Chaturdashi (14th day) of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. Therefore, every year, Maha Shivratri is celebrated on this day to commemorate their holy marriage. In 2024, Maha Shivratri will be celebrated on Friday, March 8.

This year, Maha Shivratri is aligning with several auspicious yogas, making it a special occasion. On this day there will be Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, Shiva Yoga, Siddha Yoga and Shravan Nakshatra Yoga.

Auspicious time of Maha Shivratri 2024:

According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturdashi tithi will start at 9:57 pm on March 8 and end at 6:17 pm on March 9. The auspicious time of the puja is from 12:07 am to 12:56 am on March 9 and the Paran Muhurta (time of breaking the fast) is from 6:37 am to 3:28 pm on March 9.
