Even today's Khali is nowhere in front of Maharaja Surajmal Jat, who included 5 liters of milk and half a kilo of ghee in his diet every day. Maharaja Surajmal Jat was a complete vegetarian. However, he was fond of hunting. Maharaja Surajmal Jat, who had a very strong physique, is known not only for his bravery and courage but also for his maturity in war strategy.
On 13 February 1707, Maharaja Surajmal Jat freed Delhi and Agra as well as Aligarh, Bharatpur, Bulandshahr, Dholpur, Faridabad, Hathras, Mathura, Mewat, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Palwal from the clutches of the Mughals. In the 18th century, Afghan Ahmed Shah Abdali and Nadir Shah from Iran massacred thousands of Hindus. Temples and pilgrimage sites were being demolished. Meanwhile, the Mughals ruling India had gradually become weak.
On the other hand, despite having power, Rajputs and Marathas were unable to do anything due to lack of unity. Meanwhile, Maharaja Surajmal Jat showed courage. He started a war against the Mughals along with the warriors of the Jat community settled in Delhi and the surrounding areas.
In Jatwada near Sambhal, the Jats killed Murshid Quli Khan, who was given the responsibility of crushing the Jats by Shah Jahan. Now Aurangzeb's rule had come. He had broken the back of the Hindu society by imposing taxes on them. In such a situation, Gokul Singh Jat advised the Hindus not to pay taxes to the Mughals.
After which Aurangzeb sent Mughal commander Abdul Nabi Khan to kill Gokul Jat, but he was also killed. Aurangzeb did not like this and he surrounded the Jats. Due to which many Jat women committed Jauhar. Here the Mughals caught Jat leader Mahavir Gokul Singh Jat and asked him to convert to Islam to save his life. When he refused, Mahavir Gokul Jat was killed. After Gokul Jat, Brajaraaj Jat and his nephew Rajaram Jat continued the struggle.
But the Mughals got Brajraj Jat killed. After which Aurangzeb sent a Mughal warrior named Shafi Khan to kill the Jats. Here Rajaram Jat dug up Akbar's grave in Agra and burnt his bones. After Rajaram, Chudaman Jat became the leader of the Jats.
Now it was the turn of Surajmal Jat who first made a pact with the Marathas. Ahmed Shah Abdali had to come to India to control Surajmal Jat. He massacred a lot and looted Mathura and its surrounding areas. There is a contradiction in history about the death of Surajmal Jat. Some believe that the Maharaja died in a battle with Mughal Sardar Najib-ud-Daula. But even after the death of their king, the Jats kept fighting till the end and drove away the Mughal army.
After the death of Maharaja Surajmal Jat, the Mughals were scared. The fear was so much that Najib-ud-Daula called many people to identify the body of the Maharaja. It is said that one of the major reasons behind the victory of Ahmed Shah Abdali and the defeat of the Marathas in the Battle of Panipat was that the Marathas were not able to gain the power and help of Maharaja Surajmal Jat.
Maharaja Surajmal was a skilled warrior. When Ahmed Shah Abdali came to plunder India for the fourth time, he asked Maharaja Surajmal Jat to surrender but in return Surajmal wrote a letter calling himself the ruler of the desert. In this letter it was asked whether such a great king would now fight the ruler of a poor area? He had said that he would not accept Ahmed Shah Abdali's proposal and would not let the respect of his companions diminish and would not surrender.
The great Jat Maharaja Surajmal Jat, who never did or spoke anything without thinking, has been called the Plato (ancient Greek philosopher) of India and the Odysseus (ancient Greek king and character from Homer's book 'Iliad') of the Jat community. The things said by Maharaja Surajmal Jat during the war point towards his war skills and being a brilliant politician.
Maharaja Surajmal Jat had said that - Do not attack Abdali's army now, rather wait for the heat because everyone can bear the heat, but not him.
During the war, women and children should be kept safe in the fort of Deeg so that the warriors can fight with confidence.
Do not attack the enemy's army directly, rather adopt the method of guerrilla warfare.
