Janmashtami, the festival of birth of Lord Krishna, falls on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. This year it will be celebrated on Wednesday, 6th and 7th September. Devotees of Lord Krishna observe fast throughout the day and perform puja at midnight when Lord Krishna is believed to be born. On this occasion, various types of dishes are prepared and offered to Lord Krishna. Since Lord Krishna loves milk and butter, you can include banana and cashew kheer in the offering.
Ingredients
Milk
Banana
Cashew
Jaggery Powder Pistachio
Raisin Almond Saffron
Preparation of Banana and Cashew Kheer:
Start by heating milk in a saucepan.
Mash half a banana and make a paste with half the cashews. Mix this paste in milk.
Add finely chopped raisins, almonds, remaining cashews, and pistachios to the milk. Also, add jaggery powder to the mixture. Let it boil lightly.
Cut the remaining bananas into pieces and keep them in a separate bowl. Then put these banana pieces in the kheer.
For added flavor and color, you can add saffron threads soaked in some hot milk to the kheer.
Your banana and cashew kheer is ready. You can offer it as bhog during the celebration of Janmashtami.
