There is no longer a need to carry various government documents with you, whether you are applying for school admission, driving license, an Aadhaar card or passport, or marriage registration. Now this work will be done by submitting the birth certificate as a document. This facility will be available according to the new amended law coming into effect from October 1. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023 was passed in the monsoon session of Parliament. Under this, this decision has been taken.

The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill was passed in the monsoon session of Parliament on August 11 after the final assent of President Draupadi Murmu. This has been done in the exercise of the power conferred under sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023, according to a notification issued by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan. It was notified that the provisions of the Bill will come into force from October 1, 2023.

With the implementation of this Act, a single certificate will be accepted for school, and college admission, applying for a driving license, Aadhar card or passport, and marriage certificate. The importance of birth registration will increase with this new bill. This will also help in creating a national and state-level database of births and deaths. Besides, the facilities provided to the citizens will also increase.

Importance of birth certificate instead of Aadhaar

With the implementation of this law, birth, and death certificates will be available digitally. Presently hard copy of the birth certificate is available. One has to wait for several weeks in the government office for these certificates. At present Aadhaar card is widely recognized as an identity card. Along with this Aadhar card, other documents will also have to be attached. Now the birth certificate will suffice. Which will be valid everywhere as the main identity card.
