If you often have back pain then reduce sitting, experts tell shocking reasons
Some of the main causes of back pain include muscle strain, disc damage, certain health problems like scoliosis and osteoporosis.
Nowadays, the way people's lifestyle is changing, back pain has become a very common problem. Some of the main causes of back pain include muscle strain, disc damage, some health problems like scoliosis and osteoporosis. However, a new study has revealed how back pain can be prevented from increasing. The study suggests that to prevent back pain from increasing, reduce sitting time every day and exercise.
Joa Norha, a doctoral researcher and physiotherapist at the University of Turku in Finland, said that people concerned about back health should reduce sitting at work or in leisure time. To understand the relationship between activity and back pain and the mechanisms related to back pain, the researchers included 64 adults with overweight or obesity and metabolic syndrome. During the 6-month study, the participants reduced their sitting time by an average of 40 minutes per day.
Fat gets deposited in the back muscles
People suffering from back pain often have more fat deposited in the back muscles. They are also likely to have reduced glucose metabolism or insulin sensitivity, which makes them more likely to have pain. However, the study found no relationship between back muscle fat or glucose metabolism. In addition, the researchers said that being overweight or obese and metabolic syndrome not only increases the risk of back pain, but also heart disease.
What the experts say
Physiotherapist João Nora said that just standing may not be helpful. Instead, walking or more brisk exercise may be more beneficial. Researchers say that changing between different postures is more important than finding the right one. According to a recent analysis published in the Lancet Rheumatology journal, by 2050, more than 800 million people will suffer from lower back pain, which is a 36 percent increase compared to 2020. The study showed that cases of back pain have increased rapidly since 2017 and this number has increased to more than half a billion. There were about 619 million cases of back pain in the year 2020.
